Most online reviews say this is too bassy and muffled. Sony markets the SRS XB41 as having “EXTRA BASS” so it should come as no surprise to anybody that this unit has no trouble at all with reproducing bass frequencies and doing it very well. Too much bass? NO! Do you buy a really fast car and then complain it goes too fast? NO! As for it being muffled, the factory EQ settings do roll off the high end too much for most people but via Sony’s app, mid and treble bands can be bumped up until the sound is beautifully full and rich without being harsh like a lot of competitor’s speakers. I bought thIs Sony speaker because my JBL Xtreme was too bulky. I was pleasantly surprised to also hear a much less aggressive high end, a more natural midrange, and the soundstage was worlds apart for the better. It is easy to pair but be wary of the Sony apps for this device: one likes to misbehave (solve this by playing music before opening the app) and the other is laughably terrible (Fiestable app: just don’t even bother with it). The sole oddity is ‘Live Mode’. Sony claims it’ll transport your ears to a live concert. For SOME songs it gives a genuinely believable 3D effect but you never know which songs will be improved or whether it will be turned into the audio equivalent of a bag of rotten vegetables. For most songs, Live Mode does something to the mid frequencies, screws up the stereo imaging, severely compresses the audio, then applies a type of reverb through an echo through some sort of modulation. When it works it’s great only it almost never works well. In short, do not buy Sony speakers for their ‘Live Mode’. It’s not needed. It doesn’t work well. Just don’t. Aside from ‘Live’ mode and the below average phone apps, everything else about this speaker is magnificent. Honestly, I don’t understand the critical YouTube reviews — this speaker is built for bass so why complain that a product does what it was designed for? The high end is perfectly fine after adjusting the EQ. The battery lasts for an eternity. The speaker is deceptively light. It doesn’t look weird. What more can a person want? Of course, this thing does flashing disco lights in time to the music. The lighting works. I turn it off all the time. Meh.Read full review

Looks like new as a refurbished product. Sound quality is fine except sometime low frequents are too loud. Maybe that's why it's a party speaker,
