  • I have more than one and they are mostly amazing

The only predecessor of Sigma SD1 or SD1 Merill I would buy. SD10 was the second Foveon-based DSLR released by Sigma. In my opinion and for that time, it was the perfect solution, Very ergonomic, has VERY HIGH light sensitivity and is NOT fussy about the optics you put on it. I am waiting for this one to arrive in hope its sensor and innards are in good condition - after all the camera is OLD. If you, as a photographer enthusiast, buy one and get the sensor in the right condition, it will give you hours tons and tons of fun and experimentation. The resolution of SD10 is enough for the photos you would put online, and the colors are SUPERB (again if the sensor is in the right condition). The camera is also tough and would accept any optics with SA mount and (with a minor tinkering) with ...

  • Sigma SD10 - bargain buy?

This is my first digital SLR. I've had several "semi-pro" compacts which were "ok" (Epson 850z - above average!)including Canons, Ricoh etc. I was looking for an affordable SLR more for the cred angle than anything else (hated guests at a weddings having bigger cameras than me!). Had read good reviews esp re quality of results, so took the plunge and got one s/h off ebay. Now I see what they mean.. . fantasic image quality. .a whole step-up from compacts even the Canon. Yes, it's a big clunky old thing . .reminds me of the Zenith SLR from the 70's! But that's the kind of camera I grew up with, so it doesn't bother me at all - I used to hate the fiddly tiny controls and such on small compacts . designed for 10yr olds I reckon - I can see most buttons & knobs on this with my 50yr old eyes ...

  • Expected more

After reading up on the foveon sensor, It seemed logical that it would produce better images. The SD 10 looks and feels like a proper film SLR, produces nice quality photos, and the RAW images are easily batch processed with the excellent software supplied. The controls and menus take two minutes to get the hang of. Bad points - as you increase the iso, the colour saturation and balance deteriorates. I don't think the kit lens is good enough to show the full capabilities of the sensor. I think the SD10 with an APO lens would be a much better proposition. Overall. I preferred the Panasonic FZ30 which I had previously, and I consider the Panasonic DMC-L10 which I currently use to be far superior in all departments (not least due to the brilliant LEICA lens), and you can pick up on ebay for ...

  • Sigma SD10 Digital SLR

Very strong build quality and large. Very quiet when taking photos, which is very good when taking wildlife pictures. Excellent Colour and Quality of the Photos even though it really is 3.4x3 Million Pixels. Only drawback is, the Dust in the sensor even though it has a dust cover. Having to get it cleaned professionally. Hoping to have it back soon minus the dust as it ruined my first load of photo's.
