Replace that tired old Garmin suction mount that always falls off with Arkon’s suction mount. The GN115 windshield or dashboard suction mounting pedestal is compatible with Garmin nuvi devices, including the 40, 50, 200, 2013, 24x5, and 25x5 Series, as well as Garmin nuvi 1450, 1450T, 1490T, 1200, 1250, 1260T, 1300, 1350, 1350T, 1370T, and 1390T models. This mount package includes the Travelmount Deluxe Mini Windshield Suction Pedestal and an optional 3M adhesive dashboard mounting disk. (The above listed Garmin nuvi devices should include a 17mm swivel ball-compatible mount; replacement mounts and holders sold separately.) The Travelmount Deluxe Mini Windshield Suction Mounting Pedestal is ideal for car dashboards, windshields, and other flat surfaces. The mount features a standard suction mount base made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). This type of suction performs well in hot and especially cold climates. The arm of the windshield suction car dock mount adjusts vertically and provides 360° rotation, giving you the ultimate flexibility in viewing the cell phone from any angle. To install, simply clean the mounting area with the included alcohol pad to ensure an optimum grip, then set the pedestal and push down on the one-touch lever to engage the suction. Arkon recommends using the included 3M adhesive mounting disk for dashboard installation.

Garmin manufactures superb GPS devices. What they don't manufacture is a suction cup mount that adheres to your windshield for more than a couple of weeks at a time. When I purchased my latest Garmin GPS, the Nuvi 3590, I was instantly thrilled with its superior performance compared with similar units from other companies. Since I wanted to mount the GPS to the front of my dashboard, directly facing the driver, I rigged up a system using Plexiglas attached to an empty section of the dash. If you plan to do the same, please make sure not to cover any area in which the air bag is installed. At any rate, after installing the Plexiglas and carefully attaching the Garmin GPS, I was delighted with the superb angle of viewing that I was able to establish. It was actually superior to a factory installed, original equipment GPS. Since it's so easy to remove the Garmin from its mount, I would do so after each use. Despite doing so, the Garmin windshield mount fell off the Plexiglass after less than 2 weeks. That's when I ran across the Arkon GN115 Windshield/Dashboard Mount. This product works so well, that it's now been over 2 months since I attached it to the Plexiglass and it's holding as firm as the day I put it on. This is an incredibly well made product and one that I consider to be essential if you want to avoid the risk of having your Garmin GPS fall off the windshield or other mounting surface. It could actually be a life saver, as having a GPS system fall off when driving could easily lead to a serious car accident. It would have cost Garmin no more than a dollar or two to provide this as a standard accessory for all of their GPS units, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why they haven't done so. The bottom line is that this simple device could not only save your GPS device, but it could actually save your life.

Replacement Product, Better Than Original

I had the original Garmin NUVI 250 cradle, and had no problems for the first year, then the rubber suction cup began to split from the base and could no longer support the GPS system on the windshield. I order a replacement Garmin NUVI 250 windshield mount thinking that it was just time for the original to quit, but as soon as the replacement came, it gave a good two weeks and the rubber again began to tear away from the base. I saw the reviews for this replacement and was a bit skeptical at first, but I can tell you that once I received it I was greatly surprised. The new windshield mount feels more sturdy than the Garmin version, has a larger (and wider) suction cup, and has a moveable arm that allows for greater range of view. The new mount has survived attached to our windshield even though we've had a heat wave (105 degrees outside the Jeep, and 115 inside) without a problem. The suction cup seems to be more securely attached to the base, and allows for a more secure feeling (no more fishing between the feet while driving, like I had to with the OEM part). Overall, well worth the extra price so far!

To begin with I don't review very often, but this product seems to be very well made; even better than the original that came with my Nuvi 8.
First up specs:
The suction cup on the back measures approx. 2.75" in diameter. It is slightly larger than the original and seems to have a "deeper draw" when locking it down, so this should make the suction slightly stronger than the original window holder, which should hold better and alleviate the, "well there it went again across the dash again syndrome." Overall the device is slightly larger as well which means that your unit will probably stick out just a bit farther over your dash than before as well. I solved this problem by mounting this Arkon holder upside down on my window which means I can move the suction cup farther down the window towards the front of the car therefore the unit is now about in line with where it was before. Either way would work fine.

The ball joint on the end that fastens to your unit measures about 17mm. This equals .6692 in decimal measurements, or slightly over 5/8" if you are using a standard tape measure. Check your standard mounting that you had before and eyeball it against a tape measure and if you have approximately that diameter size then it should snap on your unit and work fine.

Overall this is the first day I have had this and do not have a "long term" usage to comment on, but looking at the unit and mounting it up, it seems to be very well made and should last for quite some time with no problems that I can tell of for now.

Edit: It's been about a month so far now and it hasn't even offered to move. This unit works very well for me with my specific unit.

This item works perfect for my application except for one thing. The ball head is just ever so slightly smaller than the OEM Garmin ball. When it’s cold the ball will not hold my Garmin tight enough to hold the screen up in viewing position. Once the weather warms up it expands enough to fit more snuggly. My solution was to wrap the ball in a small piece of tape. This gives the ball a tight enough fit and the screen no longer sags.
